Welcome to Captree Elementary School!

Captree Elementary School has opened after almost a decade of non-use by the district. The building has been completely renovated and looks great! Parents and students who came to Captree this fall were pleasantly surprised. We have a brand new staff of great teachers, and a principal who is new to administration, but not to West Islip, Mrs. Bernadette Burns.

Our school hours for the 2000-2001 school year are :

9:10 AM to 3:25 PM.

Keep checking this site for upcoming events and more Captree news - it looks like Captree has a lot to offer!

We’re All Kids Week

Captree School is pleased to announce its first annual celebration of "We're All Kids Week" slated for the week of March 26th. This is a week dedicated to our children recognizing the differences in each other. This year's theme will focus on children who are differently abled. The Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf assembly program was held on March 28th.

The Notion of Motion Assembly

Look around you on a busy street and you'll see all sorts of motion. Cars are speeding up and slowing down. People stop at curbs and then walk briskly across the street. Papers on the ground suddenly fly into the air in the breeze. Motion, motion, motion......Captree students were treated to a special assembly presented by Dr. Hector von Vector who demonstrated the notion of motion. Working together, students had a chance to apply Newton's Laws of motion, gravity and inertia.

The 100th Day of School

On Thursday February 8, 2001 the first grade classes celebrated the 100th Day of School. Each student created a project made out of 100 objects. The students were very creative. Some of the items they used were cotton balls, Legos, coins, chocolate chips, Cheerios, marshmallows, and paper clips. The classes had a parade to share their projects with all of the other students in the school. It was a great day!!

Captree Drama Department Presents…..

The first drama production held at Captree was The Crazy Mixed-Up Island of Dr. Moreau. This production, directed by Mrs. Miller and Mr. Alaimo, was held on Thursday, March 29th. Congratulations to the cast and crew for a wonderful performance and a job well done!

Cool School of the Week

Proud to be a "Cool School!"

Captree Elementary is one "Cool School!" Recently, Education World named our Web site as "Cool School of the Week." In addition to the honor of receiving such a prestigious award, Captree received from Education World plaques, t-shirts, mouse pads, book marks and special certificates for those students who assist most often with the content of the page. Principal Burns presented the certificates to the students during their lunch period. Their classmates were surely proud of them and all their hard work! Miss Klein's entire class received a special certificate for their weekly contributions to the Web site. We are proud of all our classes and of all our students' work. We are especially proud to be a "cool school." Click on the COOL SCHOOL icon to read the press release from Education World!
