Oftentimes, students may consider writing as an activity that involves great concentration, tremendous skill, and lots of hard work = NO FUN! Well, look no further! Heres an idea that will excite any student to write pages of creativity that would wear out every tip of their fingers.
First, students will choose a hat from a large bag. Some hats from the bag may include party hats, a farmers hat, a magicians hat, a fire chiefs hat, a marching band directors hat, etc. Then the students will have to consider the following questions to answer that must be included in the writing:
Who would wear the hat?
Why would this person wear the hat?
What events would this person experience during a typical day?
The final detail the students are required to incorporate involves format. Now keep in mind this may or may not be seen as a trick here. This part is introduced last to ensure the students interest and excitement. I like to think of it as a reminder, rather than a boring component of writing. Remember, the idea is to keep it FUN and CREATIVE!!! (The following is the given format to write in.)
1. Topic Sentence (telling main idea)
2. Supporting Sentences (detailed descriptions)
3. Concluding Sentence (bringing it to an end or closing statement)
