English Is Our Second Language

The English Is Our Second Language Program at Captree Elementary helps children for whom English is a second language. They receive extra help to master the language skills needed to be successful in their regular classrooms. ESL students spend approximately thirty minutes a day in the ESL classroom working on the specific skills that they need to understand, speak, read and write English fluently. Mrs. Re is the ESL teacher at Captree.

Currently the children in the ESL program have parents from Afghanistan, Honduras and Turkey.

Mrs. Re's first grade ESL students are making tremendous progress! On January 25th, ESL students saw the Chinese Dragon Parade around the halls of Captree Elementary. Seda, who speaks Turkish at home, and Kenia, who speaks Spanish at home, wrote sentences about dragons. They would like to share their stories - in English!
A blue dragon has 4 feet.
A blue dragon has teeth.
A blue dragon has a tail.
A blue dragon has eyes.
