Students in Mrs. Peskanov’s 5th grade music class were exploring American music and American composers. They were all asked to become "lyricists" and compose the words for Captree’s School Song. "America the Beautiful" was chosen for the tune since it would be familiar enough for the whole school to sing! There were so many wonderful songs to choose from! Congratulations to our winners Sara H., Kristen K., and Karen L. The 5th grade chorus at Captree’s rededication ceremony sang their Captree School Song.

My name is Sara. I am a 5th grade student in Mrs. Schomacker’s class at Captree Elementary School. I play the violin and am in the 5th grade chorus. My favorite sport is soccer and I enjoy swimming, too! I have a cocker spaniel named "Holly Jolly Christmas." I have a sister named Allison in the eighth grade at Beach Street Middle School. One of my favorite things to so is to visit New York City and the beach. When I grow up, I would like to travel around the world and be a veterinarian.
Hi, I’m Kristin and I’m in the 5th grade. My hobbies are soccer and gymnastics, and I have won special awards in both of these sports. I’ve also won some nature awards. I have three cats, one dog and one hamster. I love singing and shopping! I am in the 5th grade chorus, and my favorite subjects are social studies and science. I would like to be a singer when I grow up and am a big fan of Brittney Spears.
My name is Karen and I am in Mrs. Miller’s 5th grade class at Captree Elementary School. I was born here on Long Island and have lived in West Islip all my life. I am a ten-year-old girl with many interests. I enjoy school, sports, art, music and dance. My favorite activity is dance and I am currently taking dance lessons. I have been taking dance lessons since the age of three. It is a great way to exercise and express my feelings. This year I have started studying the piano and am a member of the 5th grade chorus. This year in music class we had an assignment to compose lyrics for the Captree School Song – it was to be sung to the tune of "America the Beautiful." I am proud to be one of the 1st students at the new Captree Elementary School. I am very happy that my lyrics were chosen to be a part of Captree’s school song!
